Dogs V.S. People....

Some people are more social than others.  There are those who gleefully embark upon conversation with strangers and there are those who sit quietly in a corner and do their own thing.

I'm the latter.  If I'm waiting around, I'm perfectly content on just going online on my phone, listening to some music, or just generally staring into space.  That's just me.  Am I saying that's the right way to go about things?  No...it just works for me.

The last few weeks have resulted in my being bombarded with people who can't quietly sit around, who need to chat (and even invade personal space to do so), and generally are sweet enough to give you diabetes.  All these encounters reminded me how much I like dogs because for the most part, they allow you some aspect of space and don't demand so many interactions.

That kind of thinking led me to find THIS LIST, that highlights some of the ways that dogs are better than people.  Yeah...I'm a jerk, sometimes, but I like my quiet. Lol.

One gathering I'm looking forward to is:

These people are funny and know how to respect personal boundaries! lol.  The proceeds will go to help out some great dogs in need.  Be there!

Puppy Power?

Good morning and happy Friday to everyone!

If you are fan of old-school cartoons, you know about Scrappy-Doo.  Scrappy-Doo loved to say, "Puppy Power!" on just about every episode of Scooby-Doo.  It's pretty obvious he took lots of pride of being a dog and felt quite empowered.  After the fact, he went after some ghostly phantom or figure who would eventually  exclaim, "I would've gotten away with it if not for you pesky kids."  That's how it worked in cartoon land, but the real world is somewhat different.

Our dog friends generally don't talk or chase after ghosts of old seas captains or vampires, but what they do bring to the table is a sense of comfort and calm.  A different sort of puppy power.

My grandmother is 91 years old.  She's just about the toughest lady I've ever met and pretty much is the only real evidence I have of being part of my family (as we act very similar and share certain opinions).  Unfortunately, a few weeks ago she took a fall and broke her hip.

The last few weeks have been incredibly stressful and scary, but the good new is, she had surgery that went great and is currently rehabbing.  She's tough as hell and already walking.  That being said, she's out of her element and stuck in a room all day with a stranger.  She misses home and especially misses my mom's poodle, Buddy, who lives upstairs from her.  Well, we changed that.

The rehab center she's staying in allows dogs to visit and we took Buddy up yesterday to see her.  Her face lit up and she was so happy to have the visit.  It totally lifted her spirits.

I did some digging online and came across this article that I found quite interesting and I think you will, too.  It's about the positive results animals can bring to their owners.  CLICK HERE to view the piece.

Anyhow, its going to be a few weeks before grandma is back at home, but she's doing great and Buddy is definitely going to be making several more appearances at the rehab center.

Go grandma!

In other news, we have a great comedy fundraiser coming up soon....come on down for a great cause!

And Now....Let's Go to A Check of Our Weather...

Know what I want to be when I grow up (I mean really grow up)?  I want to be a weather forecaster.  Think about it.  What other job in the world allows you to speculate, be totally off, and still collect both respect and pay?  I have to look into this....big time.

Why do I start off this way today?  Well, it's supposed to be raining right now, but instead, thick clumps of snow are accumulating all around on lawns, roads, and cars.  I just went outside and where I just did some shoveling a few minutes ago is completely filled in again.  Snow...sigh.

Anyhow, let's get that to brass tacks.  With the weather being dismal, it might be somewhat hard to get your dog the normal exercise it generally does.  That being said, I dug up THIS ARTICLE which will give you some tips and suggest some movies you can watch with your dog.  That's right, I wrote movies.

Another suggestion for today could be for you to dust off your calendar and make a point to write in the date of February 23rd, the time of 8pm, and the location being Gotham Comedy Club on 23rd st. in NYC.

There will be some awesome comics there, great drinks/food, and proceeds of tickets go directly to helping dogs in need.  There will also be some sweet raffles for you guys to take part in.  You gotta be in it to win it!

Mark Your Calendars and Tell All Your Friends! It's on!

Good morning, everyone.  Hope you're all having a great Tuesday.

Today's blog it's all about shameless promotion.  What better time to do shameless promotion than when you're doing it for an amazing cause, right?

We are having our next Comedy Fundraiser on Wednesday, February 23rd at 8pm @ Gotham Comedy Club.  Mark it down on your calendars, tell a friend, and come on down and support our mission to help animals in need!

And now for some good news (no, the Jets didn't win)....

Good morning and sorry to all the Jets fans out there.  Bummer, folks.  Not much to say about that, there's always next year, I guess.

So, even though Stewie to the Rescue is based in NYC, we still like to focus on all things dog in the area.  There's been a lot of focus upon Rockville Centre (in Long Island, city people) as of late.  There were the two horrific instances where dogs were found in two different houses that were dead, abused, and gravely mistreated, but now I have something of a better story for you.

This story focuses upon the repealing of a dog ban and essentially states its the owner, not the breed that should be held accountable for a dog's actions.  CLICK HERE to read the article.  We'd love to know what you think.

Go Jets???

Evening and a very happy Sunday, folks.  I know generally we do the blog thing early in the morning, but its Sunday and anything can happen...so look at that...it has.  Evening blog!  Alright!!!

Anyhow, most peeps I know are gearing up and hoping for the Jets to win it tonight.  I'm not a football fan, so I'm listening to music and apparently putting together this blog....so I have that going for me, I guess.

I saw my nephew today.  He's about 7 months old and isn't crying anymore when he sees me as I've just done away with my goatee, so that's a good thing.  My sister has a big Golden Lab and my mom often visits and brings Buddy the poodle to visit and all is well.

The dogs are really great with the baby and I'm really glad for that.  I've heard stories of dogs having trouble accepting a new head in the house so I rambled online and found THIS ARTICLE that gives you an overview of the dog / new baby dynamic.  Its worth a read, so give it a look.

Anyhow, it's time to go.  I wish you Jets fans luck.

Are you out there? We need your help!

Morning and happy snowy friday to you.  Damn...snow sucks.  Can  it just be summer already?  So annoying.  Nothing more fun than waking up and shoveling your butt off then heading out to work.  Such a great way to start your morning.  Okay, sorry, got that off my chest.

As you probably know (and if you didn't, you will now), Stewie to the Rescue is a not for profit dog rescue organization.  We don't collect money for ourselves, its all about helping needy animals and assisting owners in need.  That being said, we are always on the look out for those willing to help and whatever donations you can spare to help us in our mission.

Right now, specifically, we're looking for someone who can aid us in getting some more visibility online via web trafficking.  If you are, or know someone who would be willing to help out a worthy cause and some amazing animals, please contact me at: stewiepr@gmail.com.

For anyone else who has any inquiries or wants to make a donation of any kind, please hit us up on our site, www.stewietotherescue.org.

Horror in Rockville Centre....

Hey folks, quite sorry that the blog has been somewhat inconsistent.  My grandmother (who also might be a terminator, but not bent on altering history or anything) just had some health issues and had to tend to her.  Honestly, its not like she needs tending to, though.  She's 91 and pretty damn tough and sharp, so I was there for moral support.  Anyhow, things are looking better, so here I am.

Before I get started, I want to thank everyone who attended our last fundraiser at Gotham for coming out despite the craptastic weather.  It was a great show and we also want to thank the comics who came out and dedicated their time, along with the amazing restaurant, Rao's, which dedicated a gift certificate for two for our raffle.  Thanks to all!

I'm not sure if you guys heard about this or not, but here is a horrific story that's been circulating around my native Long Island.  It occured in Rockville Centre and the events were horrific.  What kind of people do something like this?

CLICK HERE to check out the article.  If you are interested in adopting any of these animals, its been said the best number to do so is: 516-785-5220, which is the Hempstead Town Shelter.

Top 10 Cartoon Dogs of all time!

Good morning and happy Saturday to all of you.  Since its the weekend, there are a different set of rules in the land of the Stewie Blog.  I stretch, contemplate the day's potential events, and incorporate some lunacy and levity into the blog.  Today's levity focuses upon the upper echelon of the cartoon dog world.

I love lists.  I really do.  I like the accumulation of ideas incorporated via rating system, agree with them or not.  Today's list is all about the top 10 cartoon dogs ever.

Now, I checked out a few sites online and put up their views as to whom the top 10 cartoon dogs of all time are.  I looked, but couldn't help but have issue with some of their ratings, so at the very bottom, I put my own list.

What are your thoughts?  Agree?  Disagree?  Hate cartoons?  Let us know.

 According to: The Top Tens

1) Brian Griffin -Family Guy

2) Scooby-Doo
 3) Snoopy
 4) Ren Hoek
 5) Courage the Cowardly Dog
the best
 6) Astro -The Jetsons
 7) Droopy
 8) Charlie B. Barkin -All Dogs Go To Heaven
 9) Tramp -Lady and the Tramp
 10) Dodger -Oliver & Company

According to: Examiner - Newark

10.  Blue

Astro and Elroy, the Jetsons9.  Astro

 8. Brian Griffin

 7.  McGruff

 6.  Santa’s Little Helper

Odie and Garfield5.  Odie

Lady and the Tramp Spaghetti Scene4.  Lady and the Tramp

 3.  Scooby Doo

 2.  Pluto

 1.  Snoopy

Carl's List (aka the right one):

1) Scooby Doo.  Without question, he's the uber-dog.  He talks, eats, laughs, jokes, solves mysteries, and on occasion, picks up women like a madman.  He's an equally respected part of his crew and lets face it, the show isn't called Shaggy or Velma, its called Scooby Doo Mysteries.  Bam!

2) Brian Griffin.  Yes, I wrote it....Brian Griffin.  Now, Brian is somewhat "new school", but I don't think due to the timing of his debut that he should be shunned.  Brian is an amazing dog.  He's funny, clever (he went to Brown), loyal, has crazy game with the ladies, and is pretty much the everyman, with the one exception that he is a dog.  Brian's earned his spot.

3) McGruff "The Crime Dog".  Though he's never really starred in a show, his brief commercial appearances have cemented this bad ass pooch into pop culture history.  Ever hear the phrase, "Take a bite out of crime?"  Well...that's McGruff.  He wears a detectives coat and he doesn't play.  Instant respect.

4) Snoopy.  I was torn about my number 4.  I want to give Snoopy respect, but I feel he's a poor communicator.  That being said, he is a take life by the throat type of dog, so I give him number four ranking.  If he was able to speak and get his point across better, he would've rated higher.  Sorry, Snoops.

5) Mutley.  Mutley is shady, nasty, and sneaky...but oh so cool.  He has probably the best laugh going and never tried to sugarcoat who he was...a dastardly mutt.  Props to Mutley for keeping it real.

6) Spike (from Tom and Jerry).  Spike looks like he can take you out, but despite his gruff exterior, exhibited that he could be a diplomat and often gave fair warning to Tom to leave him alone before he clobbered him.  Spike has both brains and brawn.

7) Scrappy Doo.  Scrappy is pretty much the Hulk, minus the size, power, strength, and more primary vocabulary (and he's a dog).  Scrappy might possibly have anger management issues, but he's loyal to his peeps and brave to a hilt.

8) Droopy Dog.  I like Droopy, but he still kind of vexes me.  Sometimes I drink too much coffee and need things fast...but Droopy's delivery is..well...Droopy.  Besides that aspect, Droopy is smart, determined, and has a generally nice demeanor.

9) Hong Kong Fuey.  Hong Kong doesn't play.  He's a Karate master, works hard for his money, and is oozing self confidence.  He also has probably the coolest theme music ever.  That being said, he's kind of a one trick pony, but its a hell of a trick.  Go Hong Kong!

10) Huckleberry Hound.  I like how he talks.  That's really it.  He's kind of corny, but sounds cool.

Well, there you have it.  We'd love to hear your thoughts on the listings (and I'd love for you to agree with my list) as pop culture is always fun.

Also, please don't forget about your huge comedy event coming this Tuesday 1/18 at Gotham Comedy Club.  CLICK HERE for details.

New Addition (No, not the one with Bobby Brown)

Good morning to all.  After a day filled with shoveling, salting, and having near-falls with patches of invisible ice, I’m very glad to report I’ve only suffered minor muscle strains and am ready to blog my *ss off this morning.
So…let’s begin….
I have a friend of mine who just adopted a dog from a shelter and she is having issues getting the dog used to her place.  That being said, I did some research (like a good little blogger would do) and found this entry:

New Dog, Lots of Energy… Ask a Trainer
By Nan Arthur, CDBC, CPDT, KPACTP

Dear Trainer,
I just adopted a new dog from a shelter. He is a pit bull mix that is about a year old. I’ve only had him a week, but I’m already feeling overwhelmed by his energy. I walk him twice a day for about 45 minutes to an hour, (or should I say, he walks me), but he never seems to run out of energy. I also take him to the dog park each night and let him run for about an hour but I can’t seem to wear him out. What am I doing wrong!
Signed,
New Dog in the House

Dear New Dog,

Congratulations on rescuing a dog, and I’m sorry you are feeling so overwhelmed by your dog’s energy level.

It sounds like you might actually be overdoing the exercise, and, as you will read, you will have a calmer dog by understanding that your dog needs some time to settle in and recover from living at the shelter. It can also take 3-4 weeks for the stress chemicals that accumulate in just a couple of days of living in a shelter to process and recover to normal hormone levels.

The state of stress from the shelter, along with the excess exercise, and the dog park can be the very things that are causing your dog’s excited state. There is more research being done on this subject and it is finding that when there is a balance of physical exercise with mental exercise (like using Kong’s to feed dogs, other food carrier toys, training, and providing things to chew, such as rawhides, or raw marrow bones) that dogs are much calmer.

In addition, depending on how long your dog was in the shelter, your dog’s muscles will have gone through major changes because of the stressful environment and the lack of regular exercise. You really need to go slowly when working your dog up to a higher level of fitness—just like when we haven’t exercised in a while—it takes time. 20-minute walks, twice a day are good for conditioning, and a place to start.

Next, consider how moving is stressful for us humans, and it goes without saying that the same goes for your dog, so it is important to avoid some of the common pitfalls of having a new dog in your home. These pitfalls include inviting everyone over to meet the new dog, taking the dog to a dog park right away, giving the dog a bath, going to the vet and even taking a training classes right away.

Your new dog needs some time to settle in first! He needs time to get to know you and your routines before adding all the extras.

Consider the following:

1. There will be plenty of time for friends and family to meet your dog, but for now, just let your dog relax and unwind until you get to know him better. This will help you get a better idea of his levels of tolerance, and you will have had some time to build a bond with him. Many dogs run away or escape from their new homes during the first few weeks because they have not had time to bond and consider their new place home.

2. Since your dog came from a shelter environment, he is surely in a physically stressed state. In no other circumstance are dogs exposed to the amount of noise, smells and levels of stress as in an animal shelter. Even the most elaborate shelters can’t offer the benefits of a home with humans, and regardless of the comforts of a shelter, your dog still suffered a loss of his previous family. Taking your newly adopted dog to the dog park adds undue stress to an already stressed animal. (Remember it can take a few weeks to calm down completely) Again, there is plenty of time for that later if your goal is to have your dog socialize with other dogs.

3. Training is one of the most important gifts you can offer your dog, but, again, give your dog a chance to settle in first. Get to know your dog, by starting slow with some simple training in your home. (You are training your dog all the time with how you respond to his actions, so be careful what you teach!) After the adjustment period, defiantly work with a positive reinforcement trainer or sign up with a group class that offers positive methods of training.

4. Feed a high-end food without corn, wheat or soy products—all of which can add to higher energy and unstable behaviors.

Lead by example

Since your dog is displaying a lot of energy, it’s important to keep in mind that your calmness will teach your dog to be calm. Learn to breathe; the more you display calmness, the calmer your dog will be when he needs it the most.

It’s also very important that you reward, and don’t ignore all the calm behaviors your dog is offering rather than giving so much focus on the behaviors you don’t like.

Humans tend to focus on the things they do not like their dogs to do; spending way too much time saying, “No,” and expending far too much energy trying to make them stop what they are doing. Put all of that energy into “catching” your dog doing the correct things and rewarding those behaviors. If your dog has finally settled down and is quietly chewing a bone, do not ignore that behavior— reward it. Walk by your dog and quietly drop a treat by him and move along. If you don’t have a treat, a single, “Good dog,” will do.
If good behaviors are ignored and unwanted behaviors are the ones that get all of the attention, your dog may very well decided that good behaviors aren’t’ worth very much, but those “bad” ones sure do get everyone to pay attention to him.

Keep in mind that your dog is new in your home and doesn’t necessarily know what you would like. Be a good leader by guiding, directing and teaching your dog with kindness
and patience as you show your dog the rules. If you still have problems, contact a positive reinforcement trainer in your area to help you in your home.

Hope this entry might’ve helped some peeps who’ve been having similar issues with their new additions.  What do you guys think?  Was the author on point?

Well…before I go I think I should mention our upcoming Comedy Fundraiser which is due to happen this coming Tuesday, the 18th.  It’ll be going down at Gotham Comedy Club in NYC and besides having some amazing comedians on the bill, will also offer some great raffles.  One of which is from Rao’s Italian Restaurant…which is killer!  Yet another reason for you guys to come down and see us.  Great comedy, great raffles, for a great cause…aiding us in our mission to help needy animals.

Snow Is Not Gatorade....

Good morning and Happy Hump Day to all of you.  With the threat of being pummeled again with major snowfall, I write this blog with a great sense of relief.

The NY area only got hit with about 6 inches or so, so its business as usual.  You dog owners don't have to go "Arctic Tundra" this morning in walking your dogs and all of us shovel warriors can save some advil for another time.  All in all, its all good in the hood.

Speaking of snow, came across an interesting (*at least I thought it was, hopefully you will too) question from the website About.com in the dog section it reads....

Question: Does Eating Snow Equal Drinking Water?
Answer: Absolutely not.

The truth is that eating snow requires a tremendous amount of energy, and body heat to melt the snow in the first place, and the amount of water is several times LESS than the amount of snow was originally. A bucket of snow will melt down to a very tiny amount of water.

Snow Poisoning is a recent term for a dog who is essentially dying of thirst, surrounded by snow. It is extremely important to ensure that your dog has fresh water available at all times. There are heated water bowls available to prevent freezing and allow ease of drinking, even in the coldest temperatures. A dog needs more water in the winter as his body expends more energy in just keeping warm. Of course you should always have fresh water available in the house as well.

The Moral?  Make sure your dog has water left out and for yourself, don't rely on snow to quench your thirst.  Buy a water or Gatorade.  Also...avoid yellow snow...just sayin'.

Also, speaking of thirst (love my segways, right?), you can quench your thirst and laugh heartily while supporting a great cause on Tuesday, January 18th @ 8pm for our next Comedy Fundraiser.

Amazing Dogs...

Morning, everyone.  How are you guys today?

So, I happened to be exploring online and I was looking for lists.  I don't know about you, but I love lists.  I like a general system of displaying information or collecting data...one of my nerdier traits.

Anyway, I found THIS LIST depicting some cool looking pics and featuring what the authors consider ten of the most amazing dog related stories out there.  Thought you guys might find it interesting...then again you might not.  Such is life.

Its Not What You Say Sometimes, Its How You Say It....

Morning, everyone.  Welcome once again to Monday.  Hope you all had a good weekend and are ready to put your dukes up and face another week.

Bundle up, stay warm, and drink lots of coffee.  That's the way to do it.

Ever notice that some of us are very open to certain written and visual stimuli?  Especially us guys.  Check out the paragraph below...

SINGLE BLACK FEMALE seeks male companionship, ethnicity unimportant. I'm a very good looking girl who LOVES to play. I love long walks in the woods, riding in your pickup truck, hunting, camping and fishing trips, cosy winter nights lying by the fire. Candlelight dinners will have me eating out of your hand. Rub me the right way and watch me respond. I'll be at the front door when you get home from work, wearing only what nature gave me. Kiss me and I'm yours. Call (404) 875-XXXX and ask for Daisy.

What do you think?  Sounds good, right?  Well... over 15,000 men found themselves talking to the Atlanta Humane Society about an 8-week old black Labrador retriever dog.  (Derived from The Atlanta Daily).

I think its a great, effective piece and if it gets results and doesn't hurt anyone, why not?  Its the power of properly focused advertising/marketing.

Speaking of focusing...we are once again having a big comedy event coming up Tuesday, January 18th at Gotham Comedy Club in NYC.  The show starts at 8pm and goes until 10pm.  There are going to be phenomenal comedians, spirited drinks, and great raffles.  Best of all, it raises funds to help us in our mission to help needy animals and their owners.

Its About Poop....

Good morning and happy Sunday to you.  Hope all is well with you guys and that you've enjoyed your weekend thus far.  I have.

There are times in life when the absurd really is something that must be embraced.  If you're like me, you tire of the generic happenings of everyday life and need a dose of stupid every now and then.  Well...you've come to the right place.

I found THIS STORY online (its a been dated...few years back, but just go along with it) and it instantly appealed to me.  Now you can condemn me of being juvenile, but I will rebut by saying it incorporates science and concern for the environment.  Furthermore, it focuses upon practices of another culture....so there.  It's about poop.  Check it out!

Also, want you guys to take a second, get your phone, computer, or real-life calendars in front of you and mark down a date:  January 18th.  It's a Tuesday and it's the date of our next Comedy Fundraiser....be there or be square.

The Fri Guy...

I love Fridays.  Fridays are like being next in line...tons of anticipation, unrealized opportunity, and then ultimately, its all you and you get your reward.  Ahhh...Fridays....better not snow that much.

So, sometimes my mind gets to wondering.  Often that gets me into trouble, but sometimes interesting things come from it.  I was thinking about celebrities and how often they claim to be big animal lovers and all that, so I just became curious as to which celebrity owned what and such...and did some googling.

I found a site that laid out the name of the dog, the breed, and the celebrity it belonged to.  Thought there was some interesting entries and thought you guys might find it interesting, too.  (Note* - Jessica Alba is pictured above...as I find her hot.  Thank You.)

To check it out, CLICK HERE.

In closing, we want you guys to enjoy the weekend and want to give a special thanks for those who came out to Fiddlesticks last night to "Drink for Stewie."

This One's For The Fellas....

Good morning and good Thursday to all.

Now, some of you might be able to relate to this blog, others not so much, but I figured, lets go ahead.

Dating.  Dating as a guy.  Some guys are very apt at picking up women.  Others guys are not so apt.  For these guys who are light in the "apt" department there are some resources that can be used to help them better connect with women.

There are tons of online dating sites, speed dating events, professional matchmakers and more.  Levels of success for each individual may vary somewhat, but even so, these are popular options.

Now, I bet you're wondering when this blog is going to get somewhat animal oriented, right?  Well...here it comes.  I happened upon this article that involves and advises dog owning men on the best way to interact women at dog parks and I thought it was somewhat interesting.  Would I do it?  Not so sure about that...but hey, why not give it a read?

CLICK HERE TO CHECK IT OUT.

Anyhow, another good means to meet people are at drinking establishments and tonight we are having a little event at Fiddlesticks which will aid us in our mission.  For more details, CLICK HERE.

That's all for today, once again shout out to the Blooms and congrats!!!

New Hope and Congratulations....

Good morning, everyone.  It's a beautiful day out, full of possibilities.  Let's get out there and seize it.

I'm not sure if I'm going to get in trouble for this(Harris, just pull the blog if this irks you), but first and foremost, I want to congratulate Stewie to the Rescue's founder Harris Bloom and his lovely wife Josie on the birth of their child, Zadie Reese Bloom.

I don't want to post any pictures or anything, as I don't want to impose upon the couple's privacy, but take my word, it's a great looking kid.  Congratulations again, you guys, we're all very happy for you.

On to dog business...

Our mission is still ongoing.  We've got lots to do in the coming days and let's take this day to move forward. Nothing better than a positive happening to inspire action and that's what we're going to do...and you can help.

We've got a great event coming up Thursday and hope to see you there.  We also have a big comedy fundraiser coming up, so if you like to laugh and want to make a difference for a needy animal...be there or be square.

A Look Back, and Ahead...

I started Stewie to the Rescue (STTR) right smack in the middle of 2010, as we actually got our Certificate of Incorporation on June 30th.

We had a great first six months, having raised close to $4,000, especially considering our first fundraiser wasn't until August 19th (at 11th Street Bar).

I'd like to thank all of you who either attended an event or donated (and especially those who did both!).

Thanks to your donations (or event attending), you helped a few dogs (like Frankie and Buddy) get training so they can be adopted. You helped pay for surgery for a couple of dogs, who would've died otherwise (many low-income people surrender their dogs to the shelter when they cant afford surgery...and the shelter then kills them as they have enough healthy dogs they can't even re-home).

Not only did you help dogs, but you helped people, whether it be the owners who couldn't afford the surgery for their best friend, or the future adopters of the now-trained dogs.

2011 is gonna be a huge year for us. We will have more and different types of fundraisers (Like our event at Fiddlesticks Bar on Jan 6th - Thanks Erin!).

We will help more people keep their pets and we will help more rescues with their financial emergencies. We hope to raise a lot more as word of our mission spreads (we have a PR person now to help - Thanks Carl!). We hope you will be part of that too, by continuing to support us financially and by telling your friends. Please, have them join our mailing list on our home page at www.stewietotherescue.org -

We can't do this without you.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, thanks for helping in 2010, and we look forward to bigger and better things in 2011.

Thanks,

Harris Bloom

P.S. If you wanna start the new year with a donation, we won't turn it down - go to our home page and click on paypal link - thanks!

Moody dogs?

Morning.  I have good news and I have bad news.  The good news is the dastardly snow is almost gone.  The bad news is its freezing again.  We can't win, can we?

I don't know about you guys, but I'm very much susceptible to moodiness when seasons change.  Generally, I'm somewhat sarcastic, but with the influx of winter, I'm also low energy with an occasional case of the "crankies" (yes, that is the clinical term...ha).  I'm definitely much more of a summer person, as I think a lot of people are.  Besides the weather, there are other factors that influence mood.  One example is diet/nutrition and believe it or not, this can also affect your dog's mood, too.

To read more about how your dog's diet can affect their demeanor, CLICK HERE.

In closing, some people's moods are beyond our control, but our dogs' are something we can manage, so get on top of that, kids.

BTW...don't forget about our upcoming drink-related get together coming up this Thursday the 6th.  For all the details, CLICK HERE.

Catcha later, gators....

A Call to Arms....

Am I really up at 9 a.m. on Sunday?  What?!?  Its probably because I slept the majority of Saturday after a fun New Year's Eve.  Well anyway, good morning, fine readers.

Every morning I try to deliver the best in terms of this blog and sometimes everything flows amazingly and other times my fuzzy, under caffeinated brain struggles.  Today, I'm kind of in the middle, but I do have something simple to bring forth.

I know I've mentioned how much our supporters mean to us.  You do.  Incredibly important.  Without you, there is no us.  Its that simple.

That being said, I thought about reaching out to people who have "In's" with certain businesses, service companies, etc, and wanted to illuminate another way you can help us in our mission....by sponsoring our events or donating products/services to our raffles.

If you're one of these ultra-cool, well connected folks and believe in what we're doing and want to help, please don't hesitate to contact me (Carl Catania) at: stewiepr@gmail.com .  It'd be very appreciated.

Also, if you're someone who likes to have a good time and enjoy some spirits, we've got something awesome happening this week.  Come on down January 6th at Fiddlesticks in NYC.  CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE EVENT.

Anyhow, Sunday has spoken....back to bed.

TTYS,

2011 - Let's do this!

Good morning.  Yes, I know it's afternoon, but not to all of us.  Hope everyone had a fantastic night last night, whatever the case.

Generally, I haven't been a fan of New Year's Eve or day, but for whatever reason, I'm kind of seeing the positives lately.  Despite whatever crap we've been through this past year, we've always managed to dust ourselves off and get back up.  We took the good and the bad and kept on truckin'.

The way I see it...2011 is ripe with opportunity.  Its ripe with great successes waiting to be plucked from the vine and I for one, am going to do whatever I can to take part in this harvest.  In truth, we all can.

Let's kick the negative sh*t to the side for a change and focus on doing the right stuff and getting things done.  We at Stewie to the Rescue, are looking to make more of an impact this year.  We've been helping, but we want to do more.  We want to save more animal's lives, we want to help more owners in need, we want to make more of a difference.

In any mission, you're only as good as the resources around you.  Resources can be tangible or intangible, but they are necessary.  Our greatest resource are the people who are sympathetic to what we're trying to do...you...the reader.  YOU are the ones who can help us put for checks in the "Win Column" then in the "Loss Column."

We want to thank of all of you who have supported us this past year and with the risk of sounding somewhat unsatisfied, we still ask you to continue your support.  We ask you to tell a friend.  Tell them to tell a friend.  Let them know what we're trying to do and ask them to help, too.  Together we can take 2011 to a new level and make an impact together.

An easy way you can help out is by just coming down to one of our comedy benefits.  Information on our upcoming show on 1/18/11 is available by you CLICKING RIGHT HERE.

Thanks for listening and Happy 2011,

Stewie
