Mayor Mike Bloomberg is a Piece of Shit

I really don't want to write these things.

I swear, I have so much effin' things to do - day gig, a wife, ten month old baby at home, two dogs, animal rescue, comedy "career" - I really don't have the time.

But I'm compelled to...

Cause our Mayor, Bloomberg, is a sack of shit.

He's always been arrogant and dismissive, that's his MO when dealing with any criticism. Usually, I don't make a big deal about it, because I figure, eh, what's the use.

But now I figure if I can change one person's point of view about him, I have to do it (okay, I have to change more than one...at least like seven...yeah, seven).

As many of you know, a carriage horse died in the street several days ago in NYC. Bloomberg, as usual, not only didn't seem the least bit sorry about it, he didn't offer the usual platitudes of any investigation forthcoming, no, he seemed, well, arrogant and dismissive. Here are his money (irony intended) quotes from the article....

Days after a carriage horse collapsed and died in Midtown, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg on Wednesday dismissed calls for a ban on the carriage industry, saying he could not imagine why “anybody wants to destroy something that is part of New York’s heritage and that tourists love.”

“I have no idea what goes through their minds,” the mayor said of opponents of horse-drawn carriages.

“The horses here are supervised by the health department, the A.S.P.C.A.,” he said. “They’re well taken care of. And most of them wouldn’t be alive if they didn’t have a job.”

First of all, he's mentioned the tourist aspect several times - There isn't a tourist in the freaking world who comes here simply to ride the horse drawn carriages...sure, maybe some have it on their "to do" list while here, but not a single one isn't going to come to NY because they can't ride a horse.

Secondly, he has no idea what's on the minds of opponents? If that statement is true, then he's even more of an asshole than I thought. I mean, I can understand how he can object to us thinking the way we do, but to be so devoid of empathy is quite frankly scary.

The next sentence I pasted here is worthy of a reprint (even though I just pasted it a few lines up)...

"The horses here are supervised by the health department, the A.S.P.C.A.,” he said. “They’re well taken care of. And most of them wouldn’t be alive if they didn’t have a job.”

Why is that sentence worthy of a reprint? This came out yesterday.

They are "well taken care of?" Oh, really?

Apparently, this horse, Charlie as he was named, was just checked out by Dept of Health vets (I assume they have vets) in June. Meanwhile, as per the ASPCA's necropsy report, indications are that "Charlie was not a healthy horse and was likely suffering from pain due to pronounced chronic ulceration of the stomach and a fractured tooth."

When Bloomberg was asked about Charlie's death again, he responded, "Like everyone, eventually they die...some die on the streets."

I hope someone eulogizes him the same way.

RIP Charlie

Hmmm. "Most of them wouldn't be alive if they didn't have a job." Let's see now, want to parse that response. So, I guess being alive justfies being exploited and tortured, because after all, what's better than life, even one made a hell by you, Mayor.

Thanks for this post, Stewie.

His callousness regarding the horses and his comments about tourists expecting horse-drawn carriage rides are disgusting. Do people visiting the deep south expect Jim Crow law?! Times change, consciousness changes, compassion for the suffering of sentient beings grows, grow with it, Bloomberg!

Bloomberg might be arrogant, uneducated and unkind, but Christine Quinn is the person who has killed all legislative efforts to ban horse-drawn carriages. In fact, she's killed every meaningful animal protection bill introduced at City Hall since she became Speaker - wild animals in circuses, sprinklers in pet stores, humane education, shelter reform, foie gras, pets in housing, etc. If you care about animals and social justice in general, please do everything you can to ensure that Quinn is not elected the next Mayor of NYC:

Yep, we've got to suffer through two years, two months more of the Bloomberg/Quinn regime, but eight years of Quinn in Gracie Mansion, is simply unthinkable. Stopping Quinn and uniting behind a viable and reasonably animal friendly candidate, is a must. As Donny states, "If you care about animals and social justice", you must help to ensure that the fraud Quinn, is not our next mayor. Just getting through the rest of The Emperor's term is nauseating enough.

If the horses are so well taken care of: Charlie was only working in the carriage industry a couple of weeks. How is it that he didn't get a thorough veterinary check-up, BEFORE being strapped to a harness and sent out through city traffic to Central Park to haul people in a carriage around the park? Whoever believes that Charlie was well taken care of, I have a bridge to sell you.

It could not be more transparent that Bloomberg is not only arrogant and dismissive in his comments but that for some inexplicable reason, he is protecting this unsafe, inhumane business of horse-drawn carriages in New York City along with Christine Quinn. He is defending an industry that has becoming increasingly more dangerous for the horses and people -- or did Bloomberg forget about the driver that landed in the hospital in grave condition recently? or the tourists who were on the carriage when the horse bolted terrifying them and then the driver put the horse right back to work. He never comments on these mishaps. Well taken care of? No way. Shall we compare the condition of these poor horses to those that his own daughter rides? The man does not know what he is talking about nor does he seem to care to actually want to be educated on this subject. It just isn't important to him, until of course someone he loves is tossed from a spooked horse carriage into oblivion and dies on the street -- the way Charlie did.

What can one expect from someone who is part of the 1%'ers? This schmuck is about as lacking in compassion as anyone out there. Along with his uber-rich buddies, who have no idea what it means to struggle, to suffer, to endure torture and pain, this guy ranks at the top of the list. If he does not get it for people, how could he even begin to get it for animals?

thank you for another excellent post. I admire your courage and honestly, Harris. Bloomberg's lack of compassion to animals or humans is despicable. No charitable donations can make up for it. We must pay attention during next elections.

Humans are an arrogant species and the Mayor is the quintessential Human.

Very strange that Bloomberg & Quinn should be so protective of this industry. Follow the money?

I'd rather they pull carriages than work in a glue factory!! Our glue factories don't need any more employees.

I agree with your opinion of Bloomberg. He is a P.O.S. Both he and Christine Quinn care only about protecting businesses.

I see Bloomberg's daughter rides horses. I wonder what her opinion is. Is she as callous as her Dad given her close contact with horses?

As far as loomberg's daughter, Georgina, goes, this is from the NY Times article I linked to...

"The Web site of New Yorkers for Clean, Livable and Safe Streets lists among its supporters Mr. Bloomberg’s daughter Georgina, who is a professional equestrian and an equine welfare ambassador for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Ms. Knudson said that Ms. Bloomberg was introduced to the organization through the society, and that she “stepped up and said that she supports our efforts as an organization to replace the carriages.”

Ms. Bloomberg did not return a call for comment."

I was equally irritated by Mr. Bloomberg's comments after the initial carriage horse tragedy. No animal meant to be running in a field should have a full time, tethered-on-a-short-leash job. Bloomberg's comments to me came off as (like you said) arrogant, selfish, greedy, and disappointing..... but not at all surprising.

I just want to say YOU ARE THE BEST!!!! THANK YOU for having the BALLS to "TELL IT LIKE IT IS" I hope your next article is a factual article about Christine "The BITCH" Quinn---I hope she doesn't have any kids because this is one "STONE COLD" COMPASSIONLESS BITCH!!!! It is a SCARY thought that these people---and let me say--they may have $ honey but we got the brains---and COMPASSION!---make important decisions about our City and our Families!

Mayor Bloomber had to subvert the constitution,to get a 3rd term, because he is a power hungry pig, with a napoleanic complex. This little man,has shown his true colors, now that he no longer needs voter support.I hope this piece of crap gets the kharmic backlash that most certainly is in the works.Anyone who abusesw animals ,or has such a callous reaction to the death of one,is nothing but a complete and utter asshole.

Although the man is a jew, he is a Nazi. At the same time, he is the anti-christ. He is resident evil, dawn of the living dead, and he looks like Kermit the Frog, sorry Kermit. When I wipe my butt, I look at the tp and I see a shit puppet that looks just like him. I thank God he is on his way out, but I really wish he was on his way out. He's probably had so many people assassinated, more than the mob. Remember that intern of his that got hit by the car? She must have seen something she wasn't supposed to. And it's so strange that no one will do a thing about him. So, yeah, it's scary. I'm embarrassed to be a part of the human race right now, hiding in my hole, doing nothing about public officials who stomp on our rights, being so afraid because we can't even stick together for any cause and feeling so helpless. Sometimes I think we would be better off if we had stayed under the rule of King George. I don't know why they even bothered back then, or why we even celebrate the 4th of July. I don't get how we can fight for democracey for other countries when we don't even have it here anymore. Look at the animals in office-not one cares about anyone but himself, and this asshole is a prime example of this. He was behind all those teachers being falsely accused and sent to rubber rooms. He lead that crusade. He ordered principals to coerce staff members into making false allegations so that they could keep their jobs--just to balance the budget in the city. Well, they lost thousands of excellent veteran teaches and a non-veteran teacher on a field trip screwed up and a kid drowned. And he stands up there and talks about how he is getting all the bad teachers out of the classroom. All because some teacher looked the other way when he was a kid and he was stuffed into the garbage can by fellow classmates because he was being an arrogant self-serving narcissistic asshole. He doesn't like authority--the police, the fire department, teachers, his own parents. He's worse than the Omen, worse then Damien. Anyway, glad I don't live in the city or work there anymore. I feel sorry for anyone who has to deal with the beaurocrats in the city, including engineers working for starbucks and McDonalds, trying to get variances and teachers trying to get paid out for sick days they never took and being ignored. But I am sure when they get a Mayor Guiliani back, things will go back to normal. Let us pray for better days. God doesn't like ugly, but he does help those who help themselves and I'm praying for the French Revolution right now. Off with their heads!!!!!
