Your Choice...

Your wealthy uncle has passed away (sorry!).

He has made you executor of his estate, and has left you with a ridiculous decision to make, the kind only imagined by Presidents of animal rescues and comedians -

ANYWAY, you can either give $1 million dollars to the ACC OR $500,000 to your favorite animal rescue/shelter. Which will it be?

This may be a leading question but would your answer be different if the ACC weren't an extension of the City's Department of Health?

Rock On,

Harris

Great, but difficult question!!

If you don't give to the ACC due to it's mismanagement then the animals are the ones that suffer in the end. For me, I'm not sure if I could be convinced that even if the ACC weren't under the DOH that it would be handled properly.

So, all things being equal, and I had $1 million to donate, I would give $500K to my favorite(s) animal rescue/shelter(s) and then set up a charitable trust with strict stipulations to the ACC. I would request some type of oversight by either myself or a designated appointee to assure that my specific concerns were being addressed; if not, money would not be awarded.

Good answer!

(Though I didn't give you $1MM - it was only a million if you gave it to the ACC)

I assume you'd give $250K to your fave and then set up the charitable trust for $250K, RATHER than give a $1MM to the ACC?

Million to the ACC..with the stipulation that they were to give half to a private rescue approved by me.

Leave it to a lawyer-type to find a loophole...

Ha! You got me Harris! Can't blame a girl for trying! So, the "real" question is...do you think the ACC animals would get more help for the $1 million or your fave shelter/rescue getting half of that; which one would you be willing to sacrifice and/or which one would you risk?

You're right, I still think I'd split it 50-50 with a trust and specific guidelines, and if not met by ACC then Rescue gets it all! ;)
